We are off for the next two weeks. Enjoying just relaxing around the house and visiting with family close by and friends hanging around for the holidays.

Thought I would post some new things in our family.

First, Parker received his Life Scout Award last night, on his way to Eagle. He is almost there! He will be taking drivers ed this summer, and he can't wait. He wants to be driving right now. He has lots of friends that are driving and he can't wait.

This is what Presley does when her brothers and sisters are at school. She watched Toy Story or Monsters Inc. with her friends......Do I need to be worried?

This is our new hobby or something like that. We are now bee keepers....Yes you read that right. We are kind of excited to see how this will help our garden (when I get that put in) and the rest of the flowers out here on our property. John and Tina you guys might think about having a beehive also. We miss all you guys and would love to see some pictures and updates with all your families.

Bionic Woman

Mom is recovering well from her knee replacement surgery. She is walking more and more each day and gaining strength and energy too! She is getting antsy because she is limited in what she can do. Actually drove a car the other day while I was in Kingman with the boys golf team. Still more recovery time is needed to return to a somewhat normal activity level. Receiving in-home physical therapy for another week before she has to begin driving to physical therapy. She is not looking forward to that. Wants to keep it in-home, but insurance only pays for so many in-home visits. The images are before and after pictures of the knee. Barbara is awaiting arrival of the surgeon in the pre-op waiting room.

Bathroom Renovation

I have worked on the main bathroom renovating the tub surround after having the tub refinished. It has been a learning experience with an excellent outcome!! Waiting for the contractor to come to texture the sheet rock I replaced and other imperfections from the old vanity and wall cabinet. Next will come paint and installation of the new vanity from IKEA. Then the next challenge, the master bath renovation with a new walk-in full shower!!

I forgot I took this picture. I am grateful for you Mom and Dad. Thanks for being great parents and for being wonderful examples to me and my family. I appreciate all that you have done for me and my family. I am especially grateful that you raised us in the church. Malia has always been a very creative writer. She asked me to pick one of my favorite pieces from 7 of her recent writings for her final in Creative Writing. I couldn't choose but I wanted to share a couple.....

My Little Angel

I held the doll there in my arms, I sat on her tiny bed. I took a deep breath. I closed my eyes, trying to fight the tears. The pictures and memories flooded in. I saw her chunky Indian face. Her chubby cheeks, her chocolate colored skin and those big brown eyes. I couldn't hold it in any longer. The tears slowly began to roll down my face and before I knew it they were racing down. I couldn't stop.
I remembered when my parents told me what happened. When they broke the news. I remembered how the best day of my life rapidly turned to the worst. I remembered the pewter clouds and the thought that she was gone. Forever. I remember it all. The disbelief, the punch in my gut, the burn in my throat and the pierce in my heart. But the worst part was watching them lower my three-year old sister into the ground. It was all too much for me to handle.
But I had to stay. I wanted to remember. I wanted her to stay alive. Alive in me. I wanted to remember how she would laugh and how she would run around, making the biggest messes. I remember how only two weeks ago she was saying everything, copying all my words, good and bad. Now I missed that. Now I missed how she would climb into my bed in the middle of the night, crying that she was scared. Now I am climbing into her bed, but she is not here. Someone took her life. Now all I ask is......Why?
Why her? Why my little sister? She was just a little girl. She didn't deserve that. She didn't do anything wrong. I know that.
"I love you", I whispered as I squeezed the doll taking a deep breath inhaling her scent. "I will always love you."
A warm feeling curled inside my heart and I knew that she was with me. Forever.

Cousins

My kids are so excited that the cousins are closer. I am glad that Carly FINALLY moved closer to me. It is nice to let the cousins play together. I know we will be moving further away but at least she is in Rio Rancho and I can see her more often than when she was living in Santa Fe. Once I move I will still have to come to town and Joe's office won't move so I think we will still see eachother. It was nice to have Devin visit with his cousins. It was also nice to have Mom and Dad here. I like the fact that they have their summers off as well. We get the chance to spend more time with them.

YW Camp - 2009

Me and mom accompanied the YW of our ward to camp this year. The camp was held at Tenney Ranch, just northwest of Heber off of 277. It was a great time. Mom spent some time in the pond when one of the girls decided to swamp the canoe. I was a cook. Mom went as the Laurel's advisor. I had to teach the four basic knots, the square knot, the bowline knot, the sheet bend knot, and the half hitch and double half hitch. I also learned how to tie more knots for bracelets. I taught the girls how to tie the cobra weave bracelet. It was a lot of fun. I would go again, especially if it was back at Tenney Ranch.

Summer Vacation!!

Me and mom are on summer break from school. I love this job!!! We celebrated with a party at several of mom's friend's homes. We don't have much planned other than to spend quality time with our children and their children. Devin will be coming again this summer, so we will plan a road trip with him to NM to see his cousins. I plan to make my annual bike ride out to Monterey for the races again. I may take a trip through Devil's Highway, the old route 666, which is now AZ191. I want to rack up some miles on my bike this summer so I can help AZ accumulate mileage for the BMW mileage contest. School went well for both of us. We were reminded that the nice thing about teaching is, it has a beginning and an end!! Knowing that, it is easy to work only 9 months of the year!!! We hope all are well and think of Keith Spaulding every day as we offer prayers in his behalf!!

Family update

I posted this on my family blog, but not sure all of you read my family blog so I will post it here also.

Our house is almost ready to put up for SALE, and I am scared to death that it won't sell and we will be stuck. Our goal is to be out in Edgewood by the time school starts next year. I will have an 8th grader, a 4th grader, a 2nd grader and a kindergartener. YIKES!!! Speaking of 8th grader, Parker will be 13 in 2 weeks....I am feeling old. I am grateful for Parker. He is such a great kid. He is starting to get attitude but he still helps me with all the kids. It is nice to have him around to watch the kids so I can have time to myself to go grocery shopping. I hate taking the kids with me to the store. They are the worst. I hate to grocery shop anyway.

We had a very busy Saturday, like usual. I had to work in the concession for baseball from 7am until 10:30am. Caleb had a baseball game from 8am to 10am so it was nice to watch him. He actually got to pitch for his first time and he struck out 3 people. He has a very fast pitch but a little out of control at times. Joe is going to work with him on pitching. We then went to Kailei's gymnastics practice from 11:30-1:15pm. Then we drove to Corrales to take Kailei and Payton to a friends birthday party. Caleb, Presley and I went to the park while the girls were at the party. It was a nice day and it was fun to watch Caleb play with Presley. After the party we went home and cleaned up the house for about 40 minutes. I then went, by myself, to pick Sandi up at the airport and she dropped me off at UNM for my 3 volleyball games. I played from 6:40pm until 11:30pm. So, to say the least I was exhausted by the time I got home.

Yes, we made it to church at 9am, well 9:05am, they were singing when we walked in. Before church I cut both boys hair and fixed all my girls hair. I even had time for my hair, I didn't have to wear it up. I am thankful for my family and for the support of my husband with all the activities that I am in as well as the kids.

I think this is our first time writing on this "blog." So here is an update on our crazy,sometimes ordinary but never boring life...

Chase had celebrated his fifth birthday a few weekends ago. The Edwards were in town and were able to come celebrate. There were about 70 people at the party! Chase wanted a "Super Hero Party" and I did my best to give him one. I know he is only five but sometimes I feel like he is 15. He takes care of me just as much as I take care of him. In fact, I have probably learned more from Chase than he has from me...but maybe that's how it should be. I have decided that I want to be just like Chase when I grow up :) Anyways, Chase had a great party. He is almost done with preschool. So I am looking into summer school but most of them are to expensive. I enrolled him into a week long program at the zoo so he is excited about that. Chase loves animals and is really going to enjoy working with them. The program is for 5 to 7 year old kids. They will work with tortoises and other small animals. But that program is only 1 week long so we will have to see what to do for the rest of the summer. We will probably end up spending the majority of the summer building forts, running through the sprinklers and eating Popsicle's. That is my ideal summer vacation :)

Ty is beginning to leave work on time a few days a week, which is so nice. We try to meet up every Tuesday and Thursday at the gym and work out together. I have been trying to get to the gym 4 days a week, so far so good. I also started a local non partisan group called East Valley Patriots. We meet every two weeks to discuss local politics and make a plan of action. I started the group with a older gentleman named , Don. He is a true patriot and I am learning a lot from him. He has been an inspiration to me . I love politics and enjoy being an involved citizen . Ty is supportive of this and is starting to get involved . He goes to the meetings and always has great ideas. Hopefully, together we can do some good within our city and state.

So here's the big news...Colton just received 6 stitches on his little, (sometimes) sweet baby chin. Saturday morning around 4am, Colton fell out of bed and landed right on his chin. Splitting it open, and also biting his lip and tongue. We cleaned it up and he fell back asleep. Around 6:30am, (while Colt was still sleeping ) Ty went to the store and bought butterfly bandages and other first aid things. When Colton woke up we cleaned the wound and tried to bandage it. Now I have to say that Colton must have a high pain tolerance because he barely cried during this whole ordeal. And because he doesn't cry, its hard to tell how bad he is hurt...so around noon we decided to take him to the Phoenix Children's Hospital Urgent Care that is close to our house. The doctor said that Colton would need to have the wound cleaned, 6 stitches and a tetanus shot. When the nurse cleaned the wound, Chaser got super upset. He was so upset that he was on the verge of tears. When the nurse left the room, Chase said he was going to "fire" her. I guess he is like me and thinks he is the boss of everyone :) Ha! Tyler had to take Colton back to get the stitches while Chase and I waited outside the room. It was terrible. We could hear him screaming. I had to take Chase to the bathroom, so he wouldn't hear Colton scream. When we finally got into the car, we all broke down crying. I don't know if it was from lack of sleep, stress, or from seeing our baby Colton in pain but we all sat in the parking lot crying like big babies...well, all of us except Colton. He was fine! So today Colton receive his first set of stitches. I have a feeling it wont be his last.

It was so nice to spend time with Carly, Malia and Tahi a few weeks ago. Malia is such a good older sister and cousin. Chaser loved spending time with her and tried to get her attention whenever he could.I miss everyone. Especially all of my sister in laws! I wish you all lived closer or I had more frequent flyer miles...I hope everyone is doing well and maybe we will be able to spend time together this summer.

And the work continues on the taping and mudding. We are almost done with the first coat. Then we will sand and work on the second coat. Buster and Bob have done 2 coats on the ceiling in the kitchen because it is so high and the scaffolding is still up.

Edwards family update

We had a great time yesterday! We first went out to the house and taped and mudded Bob and Sandi's house. Joe, Sandi and I worked on their bedroom. We got the first layer done. We are trying to get all the house done with one layer and then we can sand it and put another layer on. We are hoping that by the time we get to our house, whenever that might be, that we will be pro's at drywall or hopefully we might have enough money to pay to have it done. We are at the point that we are trying to get our house ready to put on the market. We have figured out the only way we are going to get out of debt and finish our house is by selling. It would be a better investment if we could rent it, but that would be a PAIN in the butt....So, I have sold a dresser and a changing table on craiglist this last week. I trashed all the DVD cases and many scratched DVD's along with many VHS tapes. What do to with those? I have a lot of church ones. I wonder if I can give them back to the church, they probably don't want them because who uses VHS anymore.....Those are from the dinasour ages.
Anyway, last night we were invited to the Shrine Circus by some good friends of ours, and the kids really liked it. Presley loved the elephants. I think we all liked the acrobatic stuff, I think Caleb should join the circus and do all his gymnastics stuff.

New Closet

Since I don't get enough of building our house, I have to do things at my current house. I have been tired of my closet for a while. We had a long shelf and a really long dowl to hang clothes on. Both of them were looking pretty sad and I really didn't ever use the hanging clothes spot. So, I tore it all out, by myself, and put up the new shelves. We got the shelves for our new house but we have a whole bunch so I used 2 to make the shelving unit in my closet now. We got the shelves from Linens and things when they went out of business. I need to get some more baskets so it will look better but it works for now.

Drywall

I think because Sandi and I are working together and the guys are working somewhere else. I am the dremel queen, I like using it around the doors and window. Caleb had a meet tonight and he took 3rd overall for his age group 9-10 year olds. He had a pretty good meet. He needs to work on a few events though, but we don't have any more room in our house for rings and parallel bars....HA HA HA.

So today was interesting....I spent 3 hours in the ER with Darien and he broke BOTH of his wrists. Poor guy. Last night he was at basketball practice and was messing around at the end. He was jumping off of the bleachers and dunking the ball in a lowered basket. On the last one, he grabbed the rim and then fell right on his hands and fell hard enough to get a good goose egg on his forehead. So all night he was wimpering and whining that his wrists hurt. This morning I took him in and sure enough....2 broken wrists. Right now he has soft casts on until we get into see the orthopedic doctor next week and then they will put on hard casts. You can imagine ALL of the things that he can't do. Which includes EVERYTHING! You would think that with as many children are in our family that we would have had more broken bones. NOPE, this is the first broken limb, or anything for our family!! I am sure that Uncle Ryan can especially sympathize with Bugz right now.

Lost her first tooth FINALLY!

I just wanted to wish everyone a merry belated Christmas and an early happy new year! We love you guys and miss you already. We had a wonderful Christmas and were blessed again this year with a visit from Santa. We even had a white Christmas with snow falling sporadically throughout the day. I had to sit back among the mess of wrapping paper and toys and just enjoy the happiness in my children. It truly was a blessed day. I hope that all of you had an equally great day! Thanksgiving 2008

We gathered at the Sachs' home in Gilbert, AZ, with all of the family members present. 16 grandchildren altogether!! Can you just imagine what it was like at the photo session??? One of the employees was actually throwing balls in the air and making funny faces trying to get the little ones to smile and be a part of the photo. Most just continued to look at the one child that was throwing a tantrum!! It was really funny!!!

This is the first year in a long time that all of the Sachs' children were together and all of the grandchildren. We miss Lula and know she is waiting for us to return!

Tables and chairs were borrowed. A spare refrigerator was purchased from craigslist!! Sleeping bags were unrolled!! A tent was deployed!! Food was everywhere!!!! WOW!!! I can't believe we even survived!! We actually enjoyed one anothers' company playing cards, watching DVD's, and just sitting around reliving, remembering, and rehashing past events and family situations!! It was all done in love!!!!

We pray for the world's leaders, our nation's new leaders, and the people of the earth to find ways to accept our differences and live in peace and harmony, using the earth's resources wisely and sparingly!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of our friends and family. We hope this greeting finds you surrounded by family and friends. May you have sufficient prosperity to provide the necessities of life and the health to enjoy them!!!

Hope you all had a fun and safe Halloween. We got to do Halloween two nights in a row, so my children are hyped up on candy. GREAT! We had our Church Trunk or Treat Thursday night. Here is a picture of the kids costumes this year. I had a lot of fun making them, and I can't believe I only spent $3.00 on them, and then Caleb had to have a light saber for $7.50. I think this was the cheapest Halloween costumes I have ever made....The candy cost me more than the costumes. Something is wrong with that. For those of you who might not know who they are Parker is Darth Maul, Caleb is Anikan, Kailei is Queen Amadala, Payton is Princess Leia and Presley is R2D2. We miss you all and can't wait for THANKSGIVING!!!!

Slave Labor

I finally went and bought some green chile before it was all gone for the year. I bought 3 bags with the intention of trying to can them. I had all of the big people helping peel and rinse chile. It was a lot of work and I am glad that it only happens once a year!! The last pic is of the finished product. Now all I want is to hear the cans go "ping" so that I know they sealed. We finished peeling all of the chile at 11pm and I will do some more canning of the chiles tomorrow. Manuel said, "now you better not give any of this to your mom!" The nerve. This was the first time that Manuel helped out with the chile, so you can imagine how much more he will appreciate it now, because it really is a lot of work.

Can you believe that MY baby is 16?? Yes, Mariah had her 16th birthday on Tuesday, September 23rd. Manuel and I took her out to dinner to a nice restaurant and then came home and sang happy birthday to her and she opened presents. Mom got her lots of stuff that she needed and keeps taking from me, so hopefully she will not be in my stuff for awhile since she has her own now, and then she got money! I know, what a lame present, but....what do you get a child that already has everything!!

High Priest Group Leader

Dad was called last week to be the new High Priest Group Leader. He was sustained today in Priesthood meeting by the High Priest group as the new High Priest Group Leader with David Lichlyter as his first assistant. Joe Holmes will be called and also sustained as the second assistant. Kirk Jones is the outgoing group leader. He and his wife, Karen, moved to another ward boundary. We wish them well in their new surroundings.

Dad will try to put new, energetic life into the High Priest group. Traditionally, most people think of the High Priest group as the retirement community of the church. Is there such a place? I think not!!! We'll see how successful Dad is in this new endeavor!!

Isaiah's Surgery

The morning before we headed off to surgery. You can see he had a large "angel kiss" birth mark on his tummy. I remember when he was born, that was one of the first things that I noticed about him.

Waiting for the doctor to arrive. He was, of course half an hour late! Isaiah did good though, he didn't even flinch when the nurse put the IV in his hand. He did admit that he was nervous though. What a good guy!

After surgery pic. So sad, no more angel kisses on his belly. Now all he has is a seam. He will have a nice scar though that I am sure will make for some good made up stories when he gets older.

For those of you who haven't seen Mariah's new car.....Yes, she will be driving soon. She has already taken driver ed, and will get her license in November. We bought this car about 2 months ago for her to use. It is a VW Passat Wagon fully loaded and we got a really good deal on it! And gas mileage is much better in this than in the van or the suburban. So whenever we need to run a quick errand or go pick up a couple of kids we take this car into town instead.

Here is a picture of the Sachs family a long time ago!!! Even dad still has some hair!! ha!!

For those that were interested, apparently, the Athletic Director position for the Santa Fe Public School District was offered to an assistant principal in the district. I wish them success in the coming years. I appreciated the opportunity to interview and learn what kinds of things an athletic director needs to know.

School has started here in Gilbert. We are finishing up the first few days this Friday. I am administering a test to my computer class students about basic computers. We have implemented Thinking Maps on our campus. I have provided instruction using the Defining (circle) and Sequencing (flow) maps and will determine my success at instructing using those maps by the level of achievement of my students tomorrow. I think they will be ready and achieve high scores for the test over the material.

Hope all are well. Hope the fires in CA are receding. The watershed in the Rockies apparently has improved. Lake Powell is actually increasing in water capacity. The lake is higher than it has been and is still increasing!! That is good news. Maybe John can quit taking submarine showers!

Red Bull US Grand Prix at Laguna Seca

The races at Laguna Seca were great this year because the weather was the best. Day time temps were very nice, but it did get mighty cold at night. Down as low as 49 degrees!!! Yikes!! Enjoy the photos taken by following this link.

Devin's visit to AZ

We certainly enjoyed having Devin in our home and with us as we traveled to visit his cousins in Santa Fe and Albuquerque, NM. He enjoyed getting to know his cousins. He was quite the traveler, as his pictorial adventure is posted here. We look forward to having him again in the future for another adventure!! He is leaving today to return home to see Naomi and his parents. Be sure to ask him about opposites!!

Submarine Shower

When I was very small, dad taught me the art of the "submarine shower". For those that never got the pleasure of experiencing one of these showers, the way you do it is to turn on the water, jump in get wet, turn off the water, soap up, turn on the water rinse off and get out. Little did I know that knowledge would come in handy more than 30 years later.
Our water provider, EBMUD has started mandatory rationing for us due to a drought. We need to come in 19% under our baseline water usage. I am doing several things to try to meet this goal, but one of them is the submarine shower. It's amazing how much water is basically wasted during a shower. You really see that when you take a submarine shower.
So thanks, dad. It's a small thing, but it's one more valuable lesson you taught me. It just took longer than normal for me to appreciate it.

Look what appeared on my front lawn!! A birthday greeting from a neighborhood friend!!! Actually, this friend's birthday is the day before mine, so she is one day older than me!! ha! Something always seems to show up on my front door, garage, or front lawn from this older friend of mine!

Funny, as one approaches the other end of the tunnel of life, getting older doesn't seem like it!! I certainly don't feel like I am 40. . . .er, 50. . . .oh, 60!!!! Yikes!!! I remember the 60's as though it was yesterday!! Too bad those 60's are now distant memories!! The new 60's are on the horizon!

I am celebrating today with a ride to Camp Shadow Pines, up by Heber, AZ. The AZBeemer riding club is hosting their annual rally this weekend. Starting with lunch for free at Joe's BBQ, then a coaches banquet at a local Applebee's, then on the road to Heber. I will be returning to play in a golf tournament on Saturday as a school year-ending golf tournament and then headed back up to Heber. I sit on the board of directors for AZBeemers and have rally responsibilities. Plus, with triple-digit temps approaching, the cool pines of Heber will only be in the mid-60's!! There's that number again!!! Happy Birthday to me!!!

Malia is almost done with track, she has also done really well. She participated in most of the relays, but her race really would have been the 400m open if her coach would have given her a chance ( and if he knew what he was doing!) She really enjoyed it and plans to do it again next year. It has been fun watching her run and watching Mariah play softball, but boy, I sure can't wait until school is over!!

So on another note, I may have to postpone my trip to Haiti. Looks like we will be heading out to Arizona to take Tahi to the doctor. I have been playing phone tag with the doctor, so not sure when exactly, but planning on the end of May or beginning of June.

New Temple for Gilbert

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints President Thomas S. Monson has announced two new temples to be built in Arizona. One will be right here in our little town of Gilbert!! The other to be built close to the Thatcher-Safford areas. This is an artist's rendering of the Gilbert Temple. I suspect that we will be assigned to the Gilbert Temple. We will end up living between the Mesa Temple and the new Gilbert Temple.

The kids for Easter

The girls for Easter. I actually had Kailei and Payton wear hats. They were only $1.00 at Target. Presley didn't care to much for a hat so I just curled her hair. We are all ready for it to get warm and stay warm.

A Different Kind of Drug Problem

The following is a statement of answers to many of the ills of modern times. This was published in newspapers around the country.
The other day, someone at a store in our town read that a Methamphetamine lab had been found in an old farmhouse in the adjoining county and he asked me a rhetorical question, "Why didn't we have a drug problem when you and I were growing up?"
I replied, I had a drug problem when I was young: I was drug to church on Sunday morning. I was drug to church for weddings and funerals. I was drug to family reunions and community socials no matter the weather. I was drug by my ears when I was disrespectful to adults. I was also drug to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents, told a lie, brought home a bad report card, did not speak with respect, spoke ill of the teacher or the preacher, or if I didn't put forth my best effort in everything that was asked of me.
I was drug to the kitchen sink to have my mouth washed out with soap if I uttered a profanity. I was drug out to pull weeds in mom's garden and flower beds and cockleburs out of dad's fields. I was drug to the homes of family, friends and neighbors to help out some poor soul who had no one to mow the yard, repair the clothesline, or chop some firewood, and, if my mother had ever known that I took a single dime as a tip for this kindness, she would have drug me back to the woodshed.
Those drugs are still in my veins and they affect my behavior in everything I do, say, or think. They are stronger than cocaine, crack, or heroin: and, if today's children had this kind of drug problem. America would be a better place.
